popped out place hinges too tight for the cheap plastic covers & little screw holders. but the real damage was under.

a whole missing corner, top to bottom - couldn't open or close. sratches, cracks & loose bits on all covers. snapped, out-of-place hinges & a cracked screen. plain sight damage, this was literally falling apart.

on both broken ( left ) + not broken ( right ) side of the screen back & body top covers - screw holders were reinforced back in places, blocks were formed & spaces for cables remained. hinges were adjusted ( not too tight for covers to snap again & not too loose for screen to fall on open / close )

on screen back cover: screw holders were reinforced back in place, blocks were formed and spaces for cables remained. the body top & based were replaced, cracks & holes on both were patched & closed. at last, both hinges were adjusted ( not too tight & not too loose ) and missing bits were reformed.

one hinge fell off, glue dumped all over the back screen cover & the screen. worse of all: it couldn't open or close without worsening

the screen is out place, hinges snapped in half on both sides & screen covers detached from the body. this was unusable. but not beyond repair

cutting off the glued-on touch screen from back cover was the hardest part. hinges were adjusted ( not too tight & not too loose ). screw holders reinforced back in place by block. & a missing corner was reformed using a metal, plastic powder + q-bond.

only the base cover was replaced. the rest just needed reworking. screws reinforced back in place by block on both sides. both hinges were adusted ( not too tight, not too lose. and chipped off corners were reformed on the screen cover

see it up here 👆. screen is intact & it can still flip 360º. every bit fits perfectly together, it's stronger than ever and no part of it is permanently closed

the duo being the only members of the team, they take on all duties of a technician in a company - for their team operating in windhoek and beyond. that includes fixing everything that goes wrong on laptops. but one thing they refuse to take on in-house is patching damaged laptops. not because they are incapable, they try.... to a certain extend. but to get it right, there is a whole different level to it, which would distract them if they take it on. their teams still need those damaged laptops, for work....

ever since we crossed paths, they brought in five laptops. 3 x lenovo, 2 HP & 1 acer - all had similar damages. we offered them 8.4hrs session of recorded works on patching damaged laptop - hoping it helps them master & begin patching damaged laptops to save costs. but they declined.

because for every 2 laptops they bring in for patching, we take on the costs of one. not discount. just an act of kindness. they make it easy, us doing business with them. value goes both ways..

patching damaged laptop is engineering, art. on average, it takes 4.2 hours just to work one laptop right. time they'd rather dedicate to technical issues more critical to their operations.

being a tech founder, a family man and having 9 - 5, @alex wears many hats. he takes on all duties of a solo founder and that sometimes extends to doing the actual work, which includes fixing laptops for his clients. he's cool taking on everything else but patching damaged laptops, nope. he could master it just by patching more and more. but the time... attention... and artistry it demands - for him, it's just too much.
